While every interview is different, a core set of questions appears again and again across industries. Here's how to answer the most common ones with confidence.
The Classics
1. "Tell me about yourself."
Structure it as: present role → key achievements → why you're here. Keep it professional and end by connecting your background to this specific role.
2. "Why do you want to work here?"
Research the company before your interview. Mention something specific: their product, culture, mission, or a recent initiative.
3. "What are your greatest strengths?"
Pick 2–3 strengths directly relevant to the role. For each one, give a brief example that proves it.
4. "What's your greatest weakness?"
Be honest but strategic. Pick a real weakness that is NOT core to the job. Describe what you're actively doing to improve it.
5. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"
Show ambition while staying realistic. Align your answer with a natural career progression from this role.
Culture & Motivation Questions
6. "Why are you leaving your current job?"
Keep it positive. Never badmouth your current employer. Focus on what you're moving toward: "I'm looking for a role where I can take on more leadership responsibilities."
7. "What motivates you?"
Be specific and genuine. Tie your motivation to the kind of work this role involves.
The Question You Must Ask
Always end with strong questions for the interviewer:
- "What does success look like in this role after 6 months?"
- "What are the biggest challenges the team is currently facing?"
- "What do you personally enjoy most about working here?"
